About us
Marcus McCallum Ltd was established in London’s historical jewellery district of Hatton Garden in 1984. With a strong emphasis on quality, we offer a hand selected choice of one-off gemstones and an extensive selection of pearls. Marcus started in the trade due to a passion for gemstones and gemmology and over the years has built a team of gemmologists and experts in order to fully support the jewellery industry.
We take great pride in our hand-selected range of unique gemstones and extensive collection of pearls. Our stock is personally sourced from around the world and through regular trips to gemstone-producing regions, we have established strong global connections, allowing us to present you with a diverse and exceptional selection.
Meet the team
Marcus
I was very fortunate to get a wonderful start in the industry in 1978, working for a gem and mineral dealer called Roughgems. They specialsed in rare stones and were very gemmologically minded and well connected.
Bindy
I Joined Marcus in the business in 2001. I have had a varied background mainly in sales and customer services, working in the mobile phone industry before coming to Hatton Garden.
Although not formally trained I have managed to gain experience in all things gemmological with a focus on the fresh water pearl side of the business. I often travel to Hong Kong to source pearls and have also loved travelling with Marcus to Brazil, Sri Lanka and Myanmar to help with buying stones.
Alistair
I am a certified F.G.A gemmologist at Marcus McCallum Ltd and a co-director of Adit Fine Minerals. My journey into the world of gemstones began because I was fortunate enough to have Marcus as my uncle.
After exploring various paths in life, I found my calling in the gemstone industry and have never looked back!
Floriane
I was born in Belgium but moved to London after my studies in Classics at Oxford University. Having inherited a passion for jewellery from my mum, I decided to enrol on a gemmology course at Gem-A in my free time. I was hooked straight-away, started working with loose gemstones in Hatton Garden and I haven’t looked back since.
Lois
With a strong passion for jewellery and gemstones from a young age, I started working in the trade straight after graduating from a creative arts degree at Manchester School of Art in 2013.
I have previously worked at renowned jewellery boutiques in London along with a smaller independent family run business in Swansea that specialized in pre-owned pieces…
Christine
I moved down from Cheshire in 1996 to study for my degree in Jewellery Design and Silversmithing at the Kent Institute of Art and Design.
I have been with Marcus McCallum for 15+ happy years and have always worked within the trade.
Percy
Percy the Norwich Terrier, joined the team at the age of 12 weeks and has spent many happy days providing security and being the head of “Office Morale”. He can always be relied upon to greet visitors and make them smile.
Marcus
Since finding a fossil sea urchin on our drive at the age of 6, I have always loved minerals and fossils and spent many happy hours scouring the countryside as a child!
I was very fortunate to get a wonderful start in the industry in 1978, working for a gem and mineral dealer called Roughgems. They specialsed in rare stones and were very gemmologically minded and well connected.
Having passed my FGA diploma in 1980 and when Roughgems closed due to their owner retiring, I then established myself as a sole trader in 1984. It has taken many years with my trusty team to build our stock to where it is today.
Even after all this time I am still passionate about rare and unusual stones.
I have always kept close ties with Gem-A (The Gemmological Association of Great Britain) and enjoy keeping up with the latest developments in gemmology.
The business has given me the opportunity to travel to fascinating and wonderful places, with slightly hairy trips to Zambia and Tanzania in the early days. I have also had trips to India, Brazil, Myanmar and Sri Lanka and many happy times in Hong Kong.
When not searching for gemstones I can often be found hunting for mushrooms in our local woods or digging in our allotments, which occasionally yields the odd specimen.

I also have a passion for beautiful jewellery and as I tell Marcus, am happy to model as much of our stock as I can.
When not in the office I enjoy the country life, walking Percy, playing tennis and also digging in the allotment!

I am a certified F.G.A gemmologist at Marcus McCallum Ltd. My journey into the world of gemstones began because I was fortunate enough to have Marcus as my uncle. After exploring various paths in life, I found my calling in the gemstone industry and have never looked back! The fascinating blend of science, beauty, and craftsmanship has proven to be truly captivating. Working within this family legacy has provided me with a unique opportunity to rapidly and extensively expand my gemmological knowledge.
As an experienced and enthusiastic traveller, I spent years exploring before joining the industry. Fortunately, my love for travel and gemstones complement each other wonderfully. I am currently working on developing opportunities in Madagascar, where I source fantastic stones and minerals while collaborating with the local communities to ensure they benefit from the rich resources of their land. It is a cause I strongly believe in.
Aside from my professional pursuits, I nurture a lifelong love of music and achieved a music degree shortly after leaving school. In my downtime, I can usually be found with a book in my hand and a record playing.
I am determined to continue building upon the excellent reputation Marcus McCallum has achieved and to offer an exceptional service to our valued customers far into the future. It brings me great joy to share my knowledge, expertise, and passion for gemstones.

I was hooked straight-away, started working with loose gemstones in Hatton Garden and I haven’t looked back since.
I became an FGA, DGA and EG and took additional courses in rough diamonds and pearls. Any gemstone will get me very excited but pearls hold a special place in my heart. I feel very lucky to work with such a beautiful and fascinating product surrounded by a group of lovely colleagues full of passion. I love helping customers with any questions they might have.
When I’m not in my gemstone habitat, I like to dabble with clay, go to the cinema and travel.

Since joining the team at Marcus McCallum in 2021 my knowledge in coloured gemstones has grown hugely as I get to learn first-hand from my highly specialist and qualified team. I am currently working towards my FGA with further learning development.
I have a soft spot for blue spinels, rutilated quartz and anything briolette cut.
When not working day to day, I enjoy baking, practicing ballet and visiting my home country of Wales.
